Think of all the reasons one might set aside time to write: a love of stories and language; the desire to be seen and understood; for the solitude and self-possession of the act; for the sense of belonging that arrives from sharing one’s heart with the world; to remember and preserve significant moments from the past; to imagine a better future; to explore, discover, create, question, and connect; to find oneself and, finally, to become oneself. Inside these motivations resides a shared truth: that which inspires us to write inevitably shapes what and how we write. In this course, we will explore our inspirations. We will write from guided prompts, share stories, reflect upon our experiences as writers, and explore the connection between what brings us to the page and how we realize our individual artistic visions.
